As you know I've been on a quest to get myself healthier. And I think I have accomplished that goal. But my determination has been wavering, if not completely lacking.
Just a few weeks ago, I found myself 1 lb. from my goal. And now I'm up about 5 ish. I have still been exercising, which is prob why I'm not up 10 lbs. But I have missed a few workouts here and there, and I feel myself doing the workouts halfheartedly. I keep trying to remind myself that I'm up at 6:30 I should make it worth it, but I don't quite.
So my question is how to get my determination back, have any of you done this? It's been almost two months that I have been half bad, half good. I could have been to my goal and past it for sure. I think part of why the motivation is gone is because, the motivation was staring at me through the mirror, and the extra lbs. And now that I'm at a healthier weight, the situation is not as important so I let myself eat bad.
If any of you have advise let me know, but I know the answer is, Katie quit whining and get your butt in gear. Thanks for listening anyway.
Personally, I would take a break for a week just to recharge and relax. It's healthy for your body to take a break every 8-12 weeks, and most athletes do that so they don't burn out...just be sure to get back into a rhythm again. Are you doing the same thing every day? At the beginning of each month I decide my goals for that month and choose an exercise program. The next month I switch it up so I'm not so bored. Right now I'm doing P90x and I love it. It's fun to have something different to do every day, and I rarely get bored. I'm not perfect and I definitely have half-hearted workouts, but I make sure to write that down in a journal to make sure I'm being honest with myself...when I look back on my week and see I've had a few "half-hearted" workouts, I mentally challenge myself to do better the next week...anyway, that's what I do. Food journals are also helpful, but I'm too lazy to do that....
ReplyDeleteKatie, I'm afraid I don't have any grand tips or advice because I am not that great at motivating myself to workout either, but I will say, YOU CAN DO IT! I think the take a break tip is a good one. Give yourself a few days and then charge on with a new workout. Mix it up. I am amazed at how disciplined you are. Keep at it, I'm going to need some motivation myself come February when I'll have to get rid of some baby weight!
ReplyDeleteI agree that sometimes you have to take a break and recharge. Maybe the weight is not motivating you anymore and you need a new set of goals to achieve. For me when I need to take a break from what my weight is, I try focusing on running, etc. You could make a goal of a 5k and then work on getting your 5k time down - that is something I am trying to do and I love it. Or, like Cassi said, switch up your routine. I will lift weights at the gym on my own for a while, then do classes, then do workout DVDs - and then change those up. Good luck! If there is one things I HAVE motivation for it is working out. Food, on the other hand.... I need some serious help there. So if you got some tips for that PLEASE send them my way! lol.
ReplyDeletehey I think that you did awesome getting that far. keep up the great work!
